Columbus Circle Rediscovered!

Columbus Circle

Columbus Circle

We love charming boutiques and supporting small businesses as much (if not more) than the average New Yorker, but sometimes in Manhattan you crave a little one stop shopping. If you’re on the Upper West Side, there’s no place better for that than the Shops at Columbus Circle where even the most familiar brand name stores offer something a little special. Here are a few places worth a stop next time you visit:

  1. Turnstyle Underground Market

It turns out not all the action in Columbus Circle is above ground. TurnStyle, is a subterranean shopping mall and food court in the 325-foot-long passageway that runs between Eighth Avenue and 57th Street to the A, B, C, D and 1 trains in the 59th St-Columbus Circle subway station. You do not need a subway card to enter! The subterranean mart features 39 eateries, shops and pop-ups, 19 food vendors, 10 retail stores and 10 kiosks, including Blossom du Jour, Dylan’s Candy Bar, By Suzette, FIKA, Ellary’s Greens Pressed Juicery and many others! Read more on it in this NY Times article!

2. Sugarfina

Let’s get one thing straight – this is a candy store for grownups. Sugarfina is a breed of curated and gourmet sweets made with premium ingredients that are as beautiful to look at as they are to taste, from gummy bears made with 24K gold flakes and Dom Pérignon champagne, to edible gold rings, and melt-in-your-mouth fondants imported from Europe. The tiny 250 square foot slice of candy heaven features a “Design Your Own Bento Box” Wall where anyone with a sweet tooth can select an 8-piece Bento Box or a 3-piece Bento Box and build their own with the help of… wait for it — a “candy concierge” who will walk you through the sweet selections!

3. Williams Sonoma

Everyone knows that Williams Sonoma is a lifestyle brand devoted to cooking and entertaining, and there is no better location than Columbus Circle to experience the complete culture first hand. From cooking demonstrations with some of the world’s leading chefs, to tips and technique classes including chopping, slicing and dicing knife skills workshops, to author cookbook signings with celebrities and junior chef classes, there is something on-site for every type of foodie!

4. On Tap featuring Genji Izakaya

On Tap featuring Genji Izakaya is our favorite pub located in the far back corner of Whole Foods Market serving a wide selection of local, international and craft brews hand-selected by a knowledgeable and passionate beer team. The eclectic Japanese gastro-pub menu includes ramen, sushi tacos, wonton nachos, bao sliders and gyoza.  It doesn’t sound like it works but trust us, it does. Every Thursday from 5-8pm local breweries sample their micro beers and Monday through Friday 4pm- 7pm enjoy $1 off pints and $2 off pitchers during HAPPY HOUR.

5. Coach

This isn’t your Aunt Mary’s handbag. Coach is shaking up the world of leather, and exclusive to the Columbus Circle location comes the “craftsmanship bar” — a new concept that invites customers to bring in their Coach handbags and have them repaired and conditioned, right down to changing up the hardware or edge trimming. Our favorite offering at the craftsmanship bar is white-gloved monogramming, all done by dedicated leather services specialists who can transform any bag or wallet into a one of a kind treasure on the spot!
