LA – 1. Often referred to as “The Wimbledon of Beach Volleyball,” the Manhattan Beach Open has been a CA staple for over 50 years. The multi-stop tournament takes place August 23-25 this year and there will be no shortage of pros attending from Phil Dahlausser and Sean “Rosie” Rosenthal to Casey Jennings, Kerri Walsh Jennics and Jen Kessey. And guess what? IT’S FREE!
2. After a day of cajoling, you’ll be ready for a nice brew. One of the coldest and coolest beers you’ll find is just up the pier at The Shellback Tavern, a surfer’s Surf Bar and one of the last of its kind along the CA Coast. It also happens to be a fan favorite (you might even spot the Bud Light girls there), so try to get as soon as the tournament’s over or you could be waiting to get in.
3. Just a few feet from the Shellback is Mangiamo, a cozy, delicious Italian neighborhood restaurant, but they’ve got a “no flip-flops or beach attire” dress code, so if you’d rather grab a low-key beach bite, check out MamaD’s for a more casual, but out of this world Italian dinner! Bottom line, it’s summer time! Water + sand + sport + good food and drink = fun. And lots of it! LA Contributor: Rebecca Stay
