NY – It’s no secret that a typical day in the fashion capital can leave your head spinning, your high-heeled feet tender, and, in general, the majority of your systems over-stimulated.  While the bulk of wheeling and dealing happens between 34th and 40th, I’m all for mixing business with some chic pleasure.

Don’t Forget the Flowers!

NY – Everyone’s got a Saturday morning routine. Ours involves a leisurely stroll through the park, a bouquet of wild flowers, a jar of pickles and a Friend of a Farmer.  Here’s how it goes down.

Union Square Market

On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays the the world-famous Union Square Greenmarket pitches its tents with 140 regional farmers, fishermen, and bakers selling everything from just-picked fresh fruits and vegetables, to heritage meats and award-winning farmstead cheeses, artisan breads, jams, pickles, a profusion of cut flowers and plants, wine, ciders, maple syrup and much much more.  It’s a lovely opportunity to connect and chat with local farmers, learn what’s in season and taste the newest dishes at cooking demonstrations by some of New York’s hottest local chefs.  Take a Saturday morning and do a week’s worth of food shopping or just bring home and a few special treats.

Brunch at Friend of a Farmer

Saturday morning isn’t complete without brunch, so head east to Friend of a Farmer, a cozy and quaint country cafe on Irving Street for their famous weekend brunch. The brunch menu is fantastic –  and they bake all their bread, muffins, pastries and pies in house.  We recommend staying on theme and ordering the Farmers Market Omelet.  Lines tend to form early and they don’t take reservations, so grab a coffee next door at Irving Farm Coffee and wait it out.
