Singer, songwriter, lyricist and artist Carole Bayer Sager shared her favorite LA day with The Downtown Project.

There are so many things that I love to do in Los Angeles, but if I had to lay out one perfect day, it would go something like this:

When I’m lucky enough to have lunch with my son, Cristopher Bacharach, our favorite place to eat is Barney Greengrass in Barneys Beverly Hills because afterwards we’re in our favorite department store if we want to look around.

    The Beverly Hills Polo Lounge

But if it’s not lunch with Cris, it’s with one of my girlfriends and we always enjoy The Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel (outside in a booth if the weather is warm) or the great Italian restaurant, E. Baldi on Canon.

After lunch I might drive down to LACMA, our largest and best museum here in LA (where I serve on the board of directors), to look at one of our newer exhibitions.

    Maxfield

    Maxfield’s on Melrose

I then might take a small detour to Melrose Avenue to run in to Maxfield’s.  It’s been in L.A. as long as I have, but owner Tommy Perse, still has a spot-on eye for fashion.

I might also run in to my favorite hairdresser, Jose Eber, who is on Camden drive where Christie’s used to be and get my hair done for whatever the evening holds in store.

Many L.A. folks entertain at home – it’s more casual than N.Y. and I like that.  Sometimes it’s dinner at home with friends and then a movie.  One of the perks of being married to Bob Daly (who formerly ran Warner Brothers), is that all the studios give us their movies to screen at home.

    Mr. Chows for Amazing Chinese

But when we do go out, we often join another couple or two for dinner, in which case, my favorite place to eat is the Tower Bar on Sunset. This is where Graydon Carter hosts the yearly Vanity Fair Oscar Party — it’s cozy and I always spot some friends I know there as well as the Maître D’, Dimitri, who makes the evening so much more fun with his wonderful personality.  But I can’t forget Mr Chows where owners Michael and Eva are good friends and the food is always so fantastic.

Usually home in time for the 11pm news.  Until tomorrow…
